AND A BIG WELCOME TO …

Kim Tran

oral health therapist

In January 2022, we will have the privilege of welcoming Kim Tran, our Oral Health Therapist to the team at Underwood Dental Care.Kim’s role is to work closely with Dr Ben to ensure all his patients are provided with comprehensive dental care and oral health education. Over the years, Dr Ben has worked hard to get his loyal patients to a maintenance level, and Kim’s role is exactly that – to spend the time to ensure all our wonderful patients’ teeth and gums are always in top condition. Dr Ben and our team of dentists will still oversee treatment plans, and any dental treatment should it be required.

Kim graduated from University of QLD in the same cohort as Dr Ben and has undertaken post graduate studies at the University of Sydney to expand her skills in adult restorative procedures. Having worked in private practice in the South-Western suburbs of Brisbane, she brings with her a wealth of experience that includes but is not limited to maintenance and preventative dentistry, and routine restorative procedures. Kim also enjoys looking after our younger patients, having two young boys herself, and caring for the oral health of our future generations.

Outside of dentistry, Kim enjoys cycling, cooking, and spending time with her young family. Kim is bilingual and is fluent in English and Vietnamese.

That’s a wrap

The team at Underwood Dental Care would like to thank
all our wonderful patients for all their support during

Stop the government axing of free dental care for kids

cdbs

In my previous post, it was announced that the government had planned to close the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) on 30, June 2016. To the dental industry’s surprise, this did not happen. The government has now announced that the program will close on 30, December 2016.

This potentially gives parents 3 months to get their kids in for their dental examinations and subsequent treatment, to take advantage of the $1000 allocated per eligible child. But why should this service close? Why should the government axe this great service offering kids dental treatment that would otherwise be out of financial reach for some families?

A petition has been set up on change.org. Please click the link and sign the petition to stop the government from axing the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

Child Dental Benefits Scheme (Medicare) is ending June 30!

What is CDBS?

As you may or may not have heard, the government rolled out the Child Dental Benefits Scheme to assist children between the ages of 2-17 to have access to a dentist. Children who met the eligibility criteria had access to $1000 to be used at any participating private dental clinic, however, June 30 sees the closure of this program.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • children aged between 2–17 years on any one day of the calendar year
  • receive, or their family, guardian or carer receives, certain government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit Part A for at least part of the calendar year
  • are eligible for Medicare

What does this mean for you?

$1000 would have been made available to eligible children for general check ups, cleans, X-rays, fillings, extractions etc. This allocation will cease regardless if these funds are used or not.

If your eligible child has visited our clinic for an examination, and requires treatment to be done… make an appointment now

If your eligible child has not visited our clinic for an examination in the past 6 months… make an appointment now

If your eligible child has been complaining of that niggling tooth ache, but have not found the time to attend to it… make an appointment now

What now?

There are two weeks left of the Child Dental Benefits Scheme… with school holidays coming up, we expect to be very busy. We will do our best to schedule an appointment for you. To avoid disappointment, please call our surgery on 33419770 and our staff will do our best to reserve a booking for you and your family.
