Partial 6-month Braces

Patient 1:

“I’m generally happy with my teeth. They’ve always been pretty straight… except for this one tooth on the bottom. Is there anything I can do without having to go through years of braces?”

Patient 2:

“I had braces as a kid… but overtime I’ve noticed my lower teeth to become crooked again. Is there anything I can do to straighten things out without going through the whole course of braces?”

Sound like you? I have many patients who come in with that complaint. Often patient’s aren’t aware of the available treatment out there… and when there’s a lack of knowledge, there’s a lack of desire to correct it.

Mouthguard awareness!

With the commencement of club footy and hockey season upon us… it’s time to make you aware of MOUTHGUARDS.

Many parents bring their kids to see me as they complain of their children not wearing their store-bought heat-and-mould mouthguard. It doesn’t matter where you purchase them; online, at a sports store, chemist, supermarket…with the poor fit, poor protection and poor retention of the “stock” mouthguards, it’s no wonder that the children aren’t keeping the mouthguard in their mouths- where they need it most!

Beauty Trends in 2013…? I’m not so sure…

I was browsing through the internet news recently and an interesting article popped up. It wrote about the “Beauty trends of 2013.” It spoke about the demand for customised hair, false lashes, fake tans etc that are putting pressure on professionals to respond by lowering their prices and opening longer hours.

That I can understand… but then…

– Flashing diamonds on front teeth. They’re stuck on with the same type of glue used for braces. Rapper Kayne West started the trend back in 2010 – now young ladies in Australia want a diamond twinkle when they smile. Or ruby or emerald. But diamonds are best for that haven’t-got-food stuck-in-my-teeth look. Which is so not 2013.

Dental New Years’ Resolution

As we start 2013 together, I hope every one had a happy new year! Like many people, this year I set a new years resolution… to eat healthier and to exercise more regularly. What’s yours? To lose weight? Quit smoking? Have more time with the kids? Be more responsible with your money? …the list could go on…But is improving your dental health on your list? It may be worth while considering that as your new years’ resolution… it could in fact save your life!
