Invisalign… from real people!

Many patients present to my clinic advising me of a condition that they have because of what they read on the internet.

“I have bleeding gums, it’s a little bit sore, I think there’s also a little bit of ulceration there… the internet said it could potentially be oral cancer… what do you think?”

It can be dangerous the information you read on the internet without having a full understanding of the context.

However, browsing through the internet, I had found quite a useful (and informative) site that allowed people to give real life feedback/ information about their experiences with treatment.

I’m a big fan of sites like Tripadvisor for travel reviews, or Urbanspoon for restaurant reviews.

Announcements from Medicare Australia

As some of you may have heard, the Australian Government has recently announced the closure of the Medicare Chronic Disease Dental Scheme from 1 December 2012.

Prior to this announcement, Medicare dental items are available for people with chronic conditions and complex care needs, on referral from a GP. Eligible patients can access up to $4,250 in Medicare benefits for dental services over two consecutive calendar years.

Myths and Facts about Orthodontic treatment (braces)

Often with dentistry- patient’s fear the unknown. When I have patient’s come in with a toothache, the appointment is often over within 30 minutes. They are out of pain…and somewhat surprised.

“Wow! you didn’t even have to get on my chest and tug at my tooth! That’s amazing!”

or…

“Wow! I didn’t even feel that needle… my friend told me to expect a big jabbing needle!”

Often we are skewed by many misconceptions or myths. And it’s these misconceptions that may limit us in having dental treatment. Let me use the field of orthodontics as an example to start setting the record straight…
